Vision

Through the academy process, teachers become empowered to lead others in current methodology, collaborative skills, peer intervention, and decision-making. TLA program graduates are prepared to assist building principals with site-based decision-making, professional development, mentoring, and continuous learning. They are recognized as Teacher Leaders in Indiana.

Goals

  • To identify and select teachers who have demonstrated leadership potential and desire to pursue self growth through personal reflection and meaningful dialogue with others through an academy experience

  • To create Teacher Leaders who will be empowered to serve in a variety of roles at the building level in decision-making, professional learning, mentoring, supervisors of student teachers, and modeling of best practices

Components

Three-month commitment for a complete training program of 4 face-to-face days.
Individual & cohort team building; district-level involvement.
Embedded training on technology integration for classroom and school level application.
Development of a Leadership Implementation Project.
Development of a leadership implementation project.
Instruction by a facilitation team, authors, researchers, teachers, administrators, and TLA graduates.
Best practice for learning will be modeled in each concept area studied.
Consistent examination of the latest research in learning and the practical hands-on transfer to the classroom and school.
30 PGP, based on full participation.

Expectation of Participants

Attendance/ Participation/ Commitment.
Completion of follow-up work that includes action plans for classrooms and schools.
Development of a Leadership Implementation Project.

Participant Selection

Teachers may apply with approval from their building principal.
Teacher applicants should be in their 3rd through 6th year of teaching.
Individual teachers must submit an application form prior to admission to the program.
